Pinterest Pumpkin Porch Party

Pinterest Pumpkin Porch Party

What is a pinterest pumpkin porch party you may ask. The most amazing party of all. What you'll need it people, pumpkins, snack and drinks.

There it is, a pumpkin! Who wants to sit a plain old pumpkin on their porch? No one should! A carved pumpkin will just rot and leave a gross stain. So the perfect solution? A finely decorated pumpkin.

Just tie some raffia around the pumpkin stem. Then tie on a bow. I made mine from burlap ribbon. Helpful hint when you get your pumpkin make sure that it sits flat. Nothing worse when you make this beautiful pumpkin only to find out that it rolls onto its side.

Then just a some bling to it. Some flowers or whatever else you want.

After creating these beauties make sure you take some pictures of them. This will be our new tradition. Taking pictures with our fine chalkboard, just like the old school pictures.

There's the Pinterest crew. We get together once a month. The hostess with the mostess ( which was me this round) get to decide the craft. Everyone shows up with requested supplies and we make whatever. Last month we decorated wine glasses. Oh so fancy!  Also a requirement is a treat from Pinterest. So a evening full of good food and friends, what else could anyone want?

Stay crafty my friends!

White Elephant

IT"S CHRISTMAS TIME IN THE CITY

I'm part of a Pinterest group. We get together once a month and do fun things. September was a wine tasting and wine decorating party. October we made pumpkins for our porches. This month if you like to look a pictures, you guessed it, white elephants. We all made a gift we found on Pinterest and then we'll do a white elephant gift exchange.

This is what I made. A fun little cross stitch. It may look tiny and not that impressive. This took me over 5 hrs to make. May episodes of Gilmore Girls were watched while making this.

Either someone is going to be super excited or really disappointed. At least the wrapping looks pretty impressive. I did use a bath towel as packing and I'm going to want that back.

There's just a little close up of my craft. I was going to put a unicorn on there, but ain't nobody got time for that. So I decided on a chicken. I thought that it was cute. I guess we'll see.

Groom's Cake

GROOM'S CAKE

Ok. So its been awhile since I posted anything. Don't freak out I've been crafting away. Ok, so here's the skinny. I was asked to make a grooms cake (jokes on them). I had very little instruction or guidance to go off of. So I just went with and magic happened.

So I flipped out my cake on a cookie rack with the top on the bottom. It cools a little flatter if you do this. I put it on the cake board with to top on the bottom. The corners were a little shorter so I just shored them up with some chocolate buttercream.

I frosted the whole cake with chocolate buttercream. Also is it iced or frosted, I feel like I should know the difference, but I don't. Memo to me, learn the difference. Any who, I frosted the whole thing. (see above) This was the smoothest I could get the cake. Not too impressive.

No worries, I can fix it! All you need is a roll of Viva paper towels. Viva will give you a nice smooth surface. Listen son, 1 roll of the these paper towels cost me 1.99 at the local Wal-Mart. You might think " I can use a cheaper paper towel"... Don't do it! any other paper towel will leave a pattern on your cake.

After you frost your cake wait a little bit until the buttercream stiffens up. Then just place a sheet on top the cake. Run the spatula over the top of the cake.

BAM!!! So smooth. ahhhhhh.

Now comes the interesting part. So the only instruction I received was " He likes Star Wars" and " You can write whatever". So I printed a picture of Yoda off the interwebs. All you need is waxed paper and a sharpie. Just trace your picture, its not rocket science. After tracing flip the waxed paper over the traced with icing. Meow aren't you glad you went to kindergarten, mastered than tracing!!!

Then place your picture on to your cake. Run a spatula over the top .

Ok. So I'm not sure it this turned out well or not. Some people knew instantly what is was suppose to be. Someone told me it looked like Grumpy Cat... LOL. Any ways it took me like 30 minutes and multiple tips to do, so whatever, I'm over it.

Wow. That is a terrible picture, I apologize. However, I'm having a hard time uploading picture to the blog, so you'll just have to deal with it.  I just added what I though Yoda would say about marriage. Wise little creature. Some might say the Grumpy Cat of the future. I'm not even going to be mad if it this turns up on the cakefail website. I gave it my best. With little to no direction I think it turned out fair.

Elmer was embarrassed for me. He has fine tastes in treats.

Fall porch decor

Fall Mum Basket

Happy Fall Y'all! I neglected to take care of my beautiful hanging baskets earlier in the year and they died. So this fall I decided to give it another try.

shopping list

2 Mums
Twine
Burlap ribbon

First off tie some twine around the mum. I tied mine twice, safety first. Then cut two pieces of twine the same length then tie those pieces around the twine. You should be able to hold it up right and the mum set flat. If not you need to reevaluate your skills.

Then just make up a bow from the burlap ribbon. Make your bow and 2 streamers. Then just add it to the top of the holder. Viola! Its like fall magic just happened to your porch.

Perhaps I should learn how to photograph. Nah, who has time for that? Ain't nobody got time for that. Went downstairs to grab me a cold pop.

Low Carb Meal

Spicy Zucchini and Squash

Husband likes to eat low carb, boo :( How can you resist the deliciousness of carbs?? At the very least I'm still going to eat something tasty. To make this recipe even better, its only 6 ingredients!

I started with browning a half of a white onion. I put butter in there to get it started. Paula would be proud!

While the onion is cooking away, I just chopped up 2 zucchini and 1 summer squash. I just made sure they were bite sized pieces. Then just add into the pan with the onions.

So meow the onions, zucchini and squash are cooking. I then chopped up two garden fresh tomatoes. For real, I grew them in my garden! I suppose that you could use a can of diced tomatoes, if your not a domestic goddess. Just add the tomatoes into the pan as well.

Add a can of chicken broth into the pan with the veg. You could use homemade chicken broth, but who has time for that? Then in a separate pan cook the Italian sausage. After the sausage is cooked add it into the veg pan.

Once all the ingredients are in the pan, add salt and pepper. Then for a spicy touch add a dash or lots of dashes of hot sauce. I like a little flavor, buy I don't want to pay for it later. You know what I mean...

Chalkboard kitchen menu

Chalkboard Menu

Elmer... he'll eat anything.

I found this spider invested easel for FREE. So I put it in the back of husband's truck took it home and washed the spiders off. Free doesn't come cheap, there are prices that have to be paid.

I already had chalkboard paint from a previous Pinterest project. So I decided to repurpose the easel into a chalkboard to use for whatever. Why not?

I painted the wood portion with the chalkboard paint. I used about three coats. Then I found some paint in the garage. Its a lovely shade of green call "Avocado". It use to be the color of kitchen for about 3 weeks, then I repainted it ;) so indecisive.

You can't really see the green in this picture, but Elmer likes it despite that. I used some chalk to make my menu board. The menu states " eat it or starve" pretty much the motto at my house. Anyone want to come over for dinner??

Married Up Cake

Anniversary Cake

I want to be romantic, but its not in my blood. I want to be that wife that writes long paragraphs on the Facebook proclaiming endless love. I just can't bring myself to do it. Sorry Husband.

So I'm not a huge fan of cake. I love to make/decorate them, but hands down I'd rather have a cookie. So this is just a layer 6 inch round of chocolate cake. Husband is the fan of the chocolate cake, this is how I show love. I frosted it with a nice chocolate buttercream.

I then decided after 8 years of wedded bliss that he deserved a cake dusted with love or cocoa powder. I think they're pretty much the same thing. I don't own a duster thing. Obviously I don't even know what I'm talking about. So I used a tea disperser ? I'm not even sure what its called, but I own it!

So I dusted the cake.. The End

Just kidding, there's more. So I felt like this should be a fancy cake. Rose= Fancy. I colored my white buttercream with red. Oh so fancy.

Use disposable decorating bags. No one likes to wash bags after you've spent hours on a cake and they always feel greasy.. nasty

Wilton 103 tip

Flower nail. Attach a piece of wax paper with a little icing on the bottom side so that it doesn't move around on you.

Fat side down. Twirl it girl!

That's your base. Just a little guy.

On to the base add petals in odd numbers. the first should have 3. Then the next layer 5. Finish off with some edible glitter... yummo! Perhaps I should do a detailed blog on buttercream roses, since I'm basically a doctor of flower making.

Then use your flower scissors to remove your flower. Yes that is a half chopped potato you see. I don't have 3 hands. Deal with it.

Then just place your romantic red rose right onto your cake. I put roses all around the base of the cake.

whoops. Sometimes it just happens. Wipe it off and start over. It's all good!

Add your fancy text
" Your yearly reminder that you married up"
Pipe some hearts on the side. There you have it a wonderful romantic cake.
